STORY OF PARC LE TRALOUR
As the story goes, a French merchant named Louis Tralour arrived here with his wife in the early 1700s. Using a wagon, Tralour would haul with his goods from the nearby port to supply both the military and area businesses. Hoping to increase his business, he added more wagons to his “fleet”. Tralour would line his wagons up at night and fashioned coverings for them, renting them out to sailors and other merchants seeking meager lodgings. His wife, Daphne, would serve food from one of the wagons, and it became quite popular. He continued to expand his unique style of lodging on this very site, modifying the wagons to be even more comfortable for his overnight guests. Tralour’s wagons were such a success that he eventually amassed 20 of these modified trailers at his site, which locals referred to as “Parc Le Tralour.” Most would agree with Panini Pete’s story that this was ALABAMA’S FIRST TRAILER PARK!
